There's no such thing as a stupid question....

Have you also heard: "Don't believe everything you read."? Yeah, believe me, you could ask some dumb questions. But if you are asking about something related to the Catholic Faith, then please ask away. I have seen a number of Google searches that have had questions about the Catholic Faith, but please feel free if you ever have a question come up, to ask me. If I don't know the answer off hand I will go to other trustworthy sources for the answer. I want the comment box below to be dedicated to ANY QUESTIONS you have ABOUT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH or anything related with religion. Answers will be posted on the blog usually within 48 hours. Remember you can always comment as anonymous. God Bless!

I have been told that since we are absolved of our sins during the mass that one may always go to communion (if you are a Catholic in good standing of course) So I wonder what is the need for personal confession if one does not have mortal sin on their soul?

Is it a sin to have intercourse with a woman and being only secularly married to another at the same time who does not live with him? Suppose the married couple does not have children.
Thanks for your help and God bless,

The only sexual joining that is sanctified and therefore without sin is inside marriage. I hear your saying that you are unsure of your own marital status. You say you are:

1 secularly married to another
2 the secular marriage is child-free

It seems to me that you include point 2, because you are unsure whether point 1 is adequate to rendering the marriage inconsequential. I get the impression that you feel point 2 may further negate your marital status but that you are unsure so that now you seek advice, which is a wise choice.

The secular marriage is your starting point. If the woman in that partnership was unfaithful to you, then you are permitted to divorce her and remarry. If you yourself have been unfaithful to her, then if you leave her and marry another, you commit adultery. But you have already entered a second sexual relationship. Therefore, your hope for sexual expression that is not sin lies in the first union, if at all possible.

Personally, I understand the distinction between secular and holy marriage is defined as the former's being union between a non-believer and a believer. If the non-believer will not convert, the believer is free to leave the marriage. This is expressed in the epistles but I cannot give the reference now.

A believing marriage is the union of a male and a female who believe in Jesus as Lord and Saviour and follow Him in this brief life on earth.

Beware of the devil.

Anonymous #3,

The Church has some pretty clear laws on marriage, and really, the Church doesn't believe in "divorce" per say. It is possible that an "annulment" can be granted, but the annulment is saying that there was no valid marriage in the first place based on some good reason. Jesus seems to pretty clearly show that God never intended for divorce.
